Wayne County Chancery Court

The Wayne County Chancery Court deals with a variety of legal matters, including domestic-family issues, divorce, child custody cases, property division, adoptions, alimony, estates of descendants, land issues (titles and contracts), emancipation (declaring a minor to be 21 for work purposes), property title confirmation, property disputes (over $50,000), insurance settlements to minors and commitments of the mentally challenged.

Wayne County Circuit Court

The Wayne County Circuit Court receives and files all lawsuits, indictments, motions and other related papers in all Civil and Criminal Cases filed in the either the Circuit or County Courts and issues all process paperwork including summons and subpoenas, draws and qualifies juries, keeps a record of all judgments and executions, issues marriage licenses and keeps records of marriages, records medical and other professional licenses, and registers citizens to vote and has other duties in handling elections.

Wayne County Justice Court

The Wayne County Justice Court presides over a myriad of legal matters, from civil suits to delinquent mobile home taxes. Traffic tickets issued by the Mississippi Highway Patrol and the Wayne County Sheriff's Department are resolved in the Justice Court, as well as public service tickets, game and fish and marine reserve tickets. This court also hears all matters with regard to DUIs and violations of county ordinances. All felony cases are first heard in the Justice Court for initial appearance and the filing of affidavits. Judges from this office have court sessions at the jail three times each week to ensure each person's right to have an initial court appearance within three days of arrest.
